Global phone network and emerging VoIP provider, Tpad is entering into the mobile phone industry by offering free VoIP calls through Wi-Fi enabled phones. Using the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Tpad customers can make free calls to friends and relatives in any part of the world for as long as they have SIP-enabled phones.
Whereas, regular VoIP calls are made through PC to PC communication, Tpad goes beyond this VoIP standards by providing the same service using a Wi-Fi mobile phone instead. But since the mobile phone will be utilizing Wi-Fi connection, there will be no connection fee charged to the mobile phone owners. Although SIP is mostly present on N and E series of mobile phones, there has been a growing trend among mobile phone manufacturers to come out with SIP-enabled devices in their line of mobile phone releases. Samsung and Motorola are two mobile manufacturers which are planning to develop mobile phones which have the SIP feature. HP IPAC 500 is another mobile phone that is SIP enabled.
Using the SIP-powered free VoIP calls via a Wi-Fi enabled mobile phone is as easy as setting up some settings and wireless network configuration. The Tpad site has a comprehensive step-by-step procedure on how to use this service if you are using a Nokia N-series phone, E-series phone, HP IPAC 500 and Pirelli DP-L10.
Tpad General Manager Chris Morris said that they want to make the process of availing their free VoIP calls as easy as possible even for the most novice users.
“…It is our aim to be the first choice VoIP provider for mobile users who wish to make VoIP calls. Shortly we will be sending an SMS text to our customers that will automatically setup their phone with their personal Tpad settings,” says Morris.
Aside from these free VoIP calls using Wi-Fi enabled mobile phones, Tpad users can also make VoIP calls with other SIP devices (ATA or IP Phones). However, the iPhone and Skype’s 3 Skyphone can not be used for this Tpad service since both phones are not SIP enabled.
