What do you get when a global leader in semiconductors for wired and wireless communications and the global leader in business communications applications, softwares and services? A fusion of VoIP technology and enterprise and small business IP phones. That is what the recent partnership agreement between Avaya and Broadcom would mean to the IP telelephony market.

Under the said agreement that was signed by both parties today, Broadcom’s VoIP technology will be used by two of Avaya’s one-X Deskphone Internet Protocol telephones, the 9600 SIP phones and the 1600 series.

Avaya’s 9600 SIP phones

The 9600 series one-X Deskphone edition has been loaded with Broadcom’s BCM1103, its most advanced VoIP processor. The BCM11103 delivers features that are important for enterprise deployments that includes high-fidelity audio, end-to-end security and advanced quality of service. Avaya telephones that belongs to this series are classified as “walk-up phones” which is used in common areas such as building lobbies, break rooms and hallways.

Avaya’s 1600 IP phones

In contrast to the 9600 phone, the 1600 IP phone belongs to the low cost family of Avaya phones which were designed to answer the needs of end-users. IP phones in the 1600 series feature Broadcom’s BCM1104 VoIP processor. This processor allows advanced IP telephony features at attractive prices that would certainly please cost-conscious customers. The Avaya 1600 series gives small businesses a wide range of choices for employing IP telephony in their company.

Paul Weismantel, Director of the Communications Appliances Division at Avaya said that Broadcom’s VoIP technology helped the company in building up an entire line of IP phones that can be used by a variety of enterprise and small business customers.

“As more small businesses transition to IP telephony and their larger companies deploy Gigabit IP networks, our Avaya one-X Deskphone line will serve the broad needs of each of these growing markets,” says Weismantel.

Soonr is a mobile computing technology that lets you connect your PC, Organizer and Skype account to your mobile phones. From the company which developed business products such as Quattro Pro and Sidekick which have enabled businesses achieved increase productivity, Soonr is aiming to do the same for the new era of business mobile computing.

Soonr answers the problem of synchronizing work or home PCs to mobile devices. Using the built-in communication facilities of your mobile device, you can define your view of information and keep up to date on changes on your PC or mobile device. What”s more, you can even collaborate with your business networks, friends or even relatives, right into your mobile phone.

As a mobile computing solutions, Soonr has three main features, Soonr Desktop, Soonr Organizer and Soonr Talk. With Soonr Desktop your mobile phone can search, view, share and forward files from any PC. Now, you don”t have to download files from your PC to your mobile phone to share it with others. You can even convert formats of files in your PCs using your mobile phone.

Soonr Organizer synchronizes various applications in your PC with your mobile phone. You can check your Outlook or Mac mail, respond to important emails, access your Outlook or Mac contacts, check or share your Outlook Calendar with your networks and many other nifty applications which you normally do in your PCs.

And lastly, with Soonr Talk, you can now make Skype calls through your mobile phone with no software to install and even supports Skype”s chat feature. Now, that is simply neat.

To start using Soonr, all you need to do is register at Soonr.com. Registration is free at the moment for basic accounts. But a premium account is being planned in the future which will give premium services such as:

Guaranteed access even when the host computers are turned off!

Encrypted backup of your critical data

International calling for pennies a minute

But even in its beta stage, Soonr seems very promising with all the functionalities that you can do with your mobile and PC synchronization. Let”s just hope that the premium service will not cost that much once it is introduced.

Top voice and data provider, Speakeasy is offering two new digital voice options for small businesses as part of its Voice over IP (VoIP) portfolio. These options are Speakeasy’s ultra-fast 15 Mbps broadband and a Small Office Calling Plan that customers can use with any broadband service.
The 15 Mbps download speed which will be made available to small businesses combines Speakeasy’s ADSL2 broadband with its VoIP service. This will allow customers to receive voice-optimized nationwide network, uptime and quality of service guarantees and award-winning customer support. Customer who will opt for this service would have a single high-speed connection for both voice and data traffic with voice traffic to be given priority over data.
Meanwhile, Speakeasy’s EasyVoice Small Office Calling Plan will allow businesses with five employees or less the option to use any broadband service provider. Although Speakeasy is recommending the use of EasyVoice’s Small Office in combination with Speakeasy’s own broadband service, the company is giving its customers the freedom to choose their broadband service provider nonetheless.
Speakeasy President and CEO, Bruce Chatterley said that the company wanted to give customer the flexibility to choose their broadband provider to accommodate a range of small business needs.
“By offering both voice and broadband, Speakeasy has the ability to control the quality of service and reliability a customer receives when using our voice services over our broadband,” says Chatterley.
The two new VoIP services serve well Speakeasy’s relationship with Best Buy for Business which acquired Speakeasy in April 2007. The two companies have mergednto better serve small and medium-size business customers by providing innovative solutions that will help the businesses succeed.
